Centro Visitatori - Paneveggio
A centre to help visitors approach the Nature Park in the "Foresta dei Violini".
The Terra Foresta Visitors' Information Centre in Paneveggio is the first of three centres in the Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino Nature Park and is housed in the premises of a former Venetian saw-mill built in 1919. Located just a few kilometres away from the Lake of Forte Buso on state road no. 50 which takes travellers from Predazzo to Rolle Pass, the centre illustrates the history and legends of this thick red fir-forest, known as the Foresta dei Violini, the forest of the violins.
The forest's firs are used by violin-makers to fashion acoustic cases. Information on the animals inhabiting the woods is provided too. Some of the most popular are grouses and deer. Panels, display-cases, dioramas and videos highlight the visit. And visitors can also admire several deer in the wide gated area close-by. A nature trail with guided, illustrated stand-points sets off from here too.
The Visitors' Information Centres are the Park's calling-cards, and provide an overview of the environment and nature of the area. Moreover, each centre is also a small museum where visitors can get information on initiatives organised in the park, purchase publications and maps of the park, as well as cultural/nature-related materials.
For the park, the visitor centres serve to provide tourists with a sort of preview of the natural and environmental conditions of the area. Moreover, each centre represents a little museum where it is possible to find information on initiatives organised in the park and sign up for them, or to purchase publications, maps of the park and material of natural-cultural interest.
