Gran Festa del Desmontegar
A 4 days festival that celebrate the returning of the animals after the alpine pasture
Four days to celebrate the end of the alpine grazing season among the splendid pastures at the foot of the Pale di San Martino, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the barns in the valley.
Every year, with the first chills, herds of dairy cows, heifers, calves, and horses return to the village to the barns of their respective farmers. For them, the long period of alpine grazing spent in the high-altitude alpine pastures, among meadows rich with herbs and mountain flowers, has ended. This pastureland imparts their milk and cheese with a characteristic golden yellow color and an unmistakable aroma and flavor.
A rich schedule of exclusive moments dedicated to the white gold of the Dolomites is planned, including farm experiences, the knowledge and flavors of En di al Maso, the traditional cattle show, and the usual gastronomic showcase. Also scheduled is Dì del Formai, a new immersive experience entirely dedicated to the Primiero dairy industry, set in the splendid Palazzo Scopoli. This event will feature an interesting a la carte cheese and Trentino wine tasting, an evening tasting event with themed recipes, workshops for children, and an original sensory experience that combines flavors, scents, and sounds. All this is enriched by moments of music and folklore in different villages: from the traditional Beer Festival in Transacqua to a pumpkin and autumn flavors event in Imer, while Fiera di Primiero will welcome you with music and rustic atmospheres, in anticipation of the longest and most participated parade in the entire Alpine arc.
The Sunday of the “Desmontegada” is, in fact, the climax of this event dedicated to tradition, breeding, and the dairy products of Primiero. The event, which has grown over the years in terms of events and participants, reaches its 24th edition this year, always with the careful organization of the Tonadighi Strighi Association of Tonadico and the Siror Tradition and Culture Committee, supporting the work and passion of the Primiero and Vanoi Breeders Union, with contributions from many other local associations, entities, and businesses, and with the enthusiasm of the entire local community.

TRADITIONAL CATTLE SHOW COMPETITION: The breeders of Primiero and Vanoi bring their most beautiful cows to the square. Here, you will find not only cows and calves but also imposing Noriker horses and sweet Haflingers, and you can listen closely to the breeders' stories.

DISCOVERING THE BIONOC' WORLD: Guided tour and tasting of craft beer at one of the most awarded breweries in Trentino, a stone's throw from Mezzano, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. DÍ DEL FORMAI: A unique event created to honor the close connection between Primiero and the dairy chain. An opportunity for all cheese and Trentino recipe enthusiasts to experience a series of immersive experiences that tell of milk and smell of hay. A rich program of activities, including refined sounds and authentic flavors, personalized tastings of local cheeses from the Primiero Dairy, and workshops for children. "FESTA DELLA BIRRA - BEER FESTIVAL": An evening to taste beers and listen to good music. From 6:00 PM, a concert with the Sass Maor Choir of Primiero and the Tunsel Choir of Freiburg. Food stands with delicacies for all tastes, and the party continues with a great concert while waiting for the parade.

LA DESMONTEGADA: The descent of livestock from the summer pastures was once a kind of collective ritual. This strong and deep-rooted peasant pride is still celebrated today with a large parade, the longest in the entire Alpine arc. On the final day of the Gran Festa del Desmontegar, cows, goats, and horses adorned with decorations parade through the historic centers of Primiero, accompanied by farming families in traditional costumes, folklore groups, and musical bands. The parade, starting from Siror, passes through Fiera di Primiero and Transacqua, reaching Tonadico under the eyes of thousands of onlookers, where the party continues with music and dancing.
