Piazza della Seta - Silk square
The Rovereto spinning mill was built in the 1630s in Piazza del Podestà. It was a mechanical spinning machine as the town got its first hydraulic spinning machine only in 1580, in the Santa Maria district, along the banks of the Leno stream. It was the beginning of a long story.
To learn about the silkworm farming and processing of this precious material which made the Vallagarina rich from the 16th to the 19th century, just follow events in Piazza della Seta, a mosaic of experiences organised into four thematic paths: exploring, creating, rediscovering and weaving. Workshops, urban trekking along the silk route and educational initiatives around the history of silk and its local links, and a photo exhibition, Fili di seta, at the Rovereto City Museum.
