Trentino Dolomites
10 things to do in summer in the most beautiful mountains in the world
9 Dolomite mountain groups have been listed as a World Heritage Site since 2009, and Trentino contains 4 of them: The Brenta, Latemar-Catinaccio, Marmolada and Pale di San Martino Dolomites. It is a well-deserved recognition of their beauty, their unique landscapes and their geological features.
Whether you are looking for adventure, outdoor sports, relaxation or new cultural discoveries, here are 10 things to do, see and experience in the Trentino Dolomites during your summer holiday in Trentino.
Alpenglow on the Catinaccio Group
What is Alpenglow? Not just a sunset, but one of the most photographed natural spectacles in the world. And the Catinaccio Group, in Val di Fassa, is one of the best locations for this natural spectacle, with a wealth of mysterious legends...
Natural Parks
Some of these are located in the Dolomites themselves, and others are not far away. They were established to preserve the beauty and authenticity of the landscape, and contain a wealth of biodiversity that forms a delicate ecosystem, protected and recognised as heritage for all.
The Dolomites reflected
These are vain peaks, admiring their own magnificence in the mirror of Trentino's alpine lakes. One in particular? Lago di Calaita, in the upper Valle del Vanoi in the Paneveggio Natural Park. From here, it is an easy walk to a panoramic viewpoint where you can admire the Pale di San Martino Group.
Sleeping under the stars
There are a great many mountain huts in the Trentino Dolomites: they stand out, majestic and solitary, against the valleys and cliffs, ready to offer shelter to hikers who choose to challenge themselves by walking these peaks. Sleeping in a mountain hut, surrounded by stars. Have you ever tried it?
A little village in the Dolomites
Vigo di Fassa, at the foot of the Catinaccio and Latemar Group, looks like something straight out of a fairytale, with its great wooden barns, a chapel with a narrow, pointed steeple, and stretches of green meadows and towering mountains all around. Would you like to visit one of the most beautiful villages in Italy?
Dolomites and adventure: the Bocchette Via Ferrata
A Via Ferrata that crosses the entire Brenta Group from north to south, connecting up the mountain huts and different valleys in a multi-day route that leads you through peaks, vertical cliffs and narrow mountain passes, never dropping below 2000 metres. Climbing up vertical ladders and along ledges hundreds of metres high, all of a sudden you will find yourself in front of the majestic Campanil Basso... a spectacular sight that is worth the trip!
Dolomiti Palaronda Trek
A trekking route between huts in the Dolomites, on the Altopiano delle Pale di San Martino, a mysterious stone plateau at a height of over 2,500 metres. The tours offered follow a 4-6 day trip on well-signposted paths, with overnight stays in the cosy atmosphere of the mountain huts.
The taste of the Dolomites
You can start looking forward to the taste of the Dolomites by reading these stories, which narrate the most appetising aspects of the most famous mountains in the world. Polenta, craft beer, traditional sweets: you can also discover a place through its food!
Art in the open air
RespirArt in Val di Fiemme is an art park at an altitude of 2,200 metres, in the heart of the Val di Fiemme. Here, in a 3-kilometre circular walk, you can encounter over 27 art installations that interact with Latemar's Dolomite peaks. The park, which can also be visited in winter on skis or snowshoes, is reached via the Agnello chairlift.
Discover the legends
Living in the woods of Trentino are courageous princesses, dwarves with magic powers, gentle "vivane" and mischievous "salvani". If you want to make friends with them, first you have to get to know them. So here are a few legends we have chosen for you.
