San Martino di Castrozza

Trentino experiences for everyone

In the kingdom of Enrosadira, where sunrises and sunsets paint the peaks of the Dolomites pink, the mountains become accessible and you can organise a holiday dedicated to nature, sport and outdoor wellness.

The Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Nature Park, for example, provides its visitors with a joelette. It is a one-wheel off-road wheelchair which, with the support of two escorts, allows people with mobility disabilities to participate in guided outings and hikes.

The joelette must be booked and can be picked up at Villa Welsperg, headquarters of the Nature Park, and can also be transported to the starting point of the hike by your own means. Villa Welsperg is located at an altitude of 1,000 m in the heart of Canali Valley, in a natural setting crowned by the Pale di San Martino. There are convenient parking spaces next to the Villa where you can park your car.

For information and to request a joelette, visit the Nature Park website under Accessibility.

The Muse Fedaie themed trail develops in Canali Valley, at an altitude of 1,000 m, at the foot of the Pale di San Martino mountains. The path is barrier-free and offers a pleasant journey through local biodiversity.

The start is located next to Lake Welsperg, in which the Pale di San Martino Mountains are reflected, and is directly accessed from the car park along the Canali Valley road.

The Marciò Trail and the Travignolo Gorge Trail, near the Park Visitor Centre in Paneveggio, are also accessible to people with motor disabilities. When there is no snow or ice, they can be followed by accompanied wheelchairs.

The Marciò trail is also accessible to the visually impaired. This is a pleasant itinerary of about an hour inside the famous Violin Forest. The route is marked and, thanks to text panels overwritten in Braille, blind or visually impaired people can also find out more about this corner of the forest.

In addition to the information boards, you will come across small boxes inside containing branches and strobili of the most significant species: you can touch and smell them to add a sensory experience to the walk. Large wooden shelves have been engraved with the various types of roots and underground burrows made by the mammals living in the park’s forest.

Access to the Marciò trail is located at the Paneveggio Visitor Centre and is easily reached from the car parks.

Cycling trails

If, on the other hand, you want to discover the area by following cycle paths, at Cicli Bettega in Mezzano, in the Primiero Valley, you can rent bicycles suitable for people with motor disabilities: Tandem E-Twinny Plus and E-OPair. Both are electric and are designed for low gradient routes such as the Primiero cycle path, which is easily reached from Cicli Bettega. This beautiful route along the stream allows you to reach Fiera di Primiero and other hamlets in the municipality of Primiero-San Martino di Castrozza with your gaze turned towards the villages in the distance and your nose turned up towards the Pale di San Martino.

For those who love animals and wish to admire them up close, the Agritur Dalaip dei Pape offers many educational farm activities, and people with motor disabilities can get close to the splendid Haflinger horses at the riding stables and learn about them.

The music here is also inclusive. Discover the accessible events of the I Suoni delle Dolomiti festival: the enchantment of music in the silence of the highlands is even more special when everyone can enjoy it.

Finally, if you are looking for a person experienced in guiding people with disabilities to accompany you to discover the area, you can contact Elisa Dalla Santa. Elisa is a mountain guide who has attended specific courses for accompanying autistic and visually impaired people. She combines her passion for the mountains with a desire to help others and to lead them to the most beautiful places in the Pale di San Martino.
