Healthy, relaxing, suitable for everyone: discover Trentino by canoe or kayak

If you’ve never splashed about in a canoe or kayak, this is the right time to start. Firstly, because this activity is suitable for all: if you’re experienced you can paddle harder and play with the waves, otherwise you can proceed with ease and little effort. You decide! Secondly, skimming across the water in a canoe or kayak is truly relaxing and offers a sense of freedom as you get in touch with nature. Lastly, certain shores can only be reached by water and the trip offers a range of unique panoramas that remain invisible from the shores.

In Trentino, for example, from the middle of Molveno lake you have a unique view of the Brenta Dolomites whereas, hidden amongst the rocky shorelines of Lake Garda, you’ll find the waterfalls of Ponale. The wooded shorelines of Levico lake are also a must.

In Trentino each lake is different and it’s worth exploring them all!

#1

Lake Caldonazzo and Lake Levico

These two beautiful mountain lakes, both just a half-hour drive from Trento, were awarded yet again the Blue Flag in 2020, a nod to the clean waters and quality services. Canoeing or kayaking here means paddling surrounded by woodland, in the silence of nature.

#2

Lake Garda

There’s no better way to explore Lake Garda than by paddling about in a canoe or kayak. Of course, it’s best to wait for calmer waters so you can truly soak in the marvellous panorama. If you’re more dynamic or competitive, you shouldn’t miss the slalom course at the mouth of the Sarca river at the Lido di Arco.

#3

Lake Molveno

According to Legambiente and the Italian Touring Club, the lake of Molveno is “the most beautiful lake in Italy”. This should be enough to justify a trip by canoe or kayak. If we add the fact that these waters offer a privileged view of the Brenta Dolomites, then you really have no excuses not to come for a paddle.

#4

Lake Ledro

The best spot for canoeing and kayaking on Ledro lake is the small hamlet of Molina, just a few kilometres from Lake Garda. It’s advisable to paddle before 11 am or after 5 pm, when the waters are calmer and perfect for exploring hidden nooks and crannies.

#5

Lake Santa Giustina

Paddling a kayak through the deep gorges and calm waters of Lake Santa Giustina, in the Val di Non. An must-try experience that’s suitable for everyone, thanks to the presence of qualified instructors and teachers.
