It’s time for some freewheeling fun
We’ve taken the stress out of cycling, with paved cycle paths, easy-to-use ebikes and well-maintained MTB trails
Sometimes, all you really want is to feel the wind in your hair. So why not add a little zip to your summer by jumping on a bike, and pedalling your way through our world? You’ll find cycle paths by nearly every Trentino lake, and challenging MTB trails up every mountain, too. And if that sounds like too much hard work, then you can hire always hire an ebike.
It’s easy to explore our lakeland landscapes by bike. Many are home to purpose-built cycle tracks, which hug the shoreline, and sidestep busy roads with purpose-built bridges and causeways. The cycling itself is easy, the scenery spectacular, and you can choose from several well-planned routes, including the 80km Valsugana cycle trail and the Valle di Ledro cycleway, which can extended with a thrilling descent to Riva del Garda down a disused switchback road.
Meanwhile, a network of ebikes is on hand for those who don’t want to pedal too hard. Valsugana has the most developed ebiking infrastructure, which is part of the international MOVELO network. But you can also rent ebikes in the Valle di Ledro, and on Lake Garda - where Riva de Garda is now home to a network of free ebikes. Here, you can pick up and drop off an ebike at six charging stations around the resort.
If that all sounds too easy, don’t panic. Several of our lakes are also the starting points for some magnificent MTB trails. From Garda, for example, the 218km Mountain & Garda Bike circuit will take you almost to Trentino and back, while the Dolomiti Lagorai bike circuit winds its way along two lakes – Levico and Caldonazzo. Meanwhile, from Lake Molveno, you can join the 171km Dolomiti di Brenta trail, right around the Brenta Dolomites.
