The Festival dello Sport, in Trento in the autumn

An unmissable event where you can meet champions

In autumn, Trento is adorned with pink to welcome the champions of sport. Legends who have made history, such as Ibrahimovic, Roberto Baggio, Ronaldinho, Boris Becker, Federica Pellegrini, Marcel Jacobs, Pep Guardiola and Mike Powell, alongside up-and-coming sports stars, journalists, celebrities, and, most importantly, thousands of fans.

The Festival dello Sport, organised with the help of the Gazzetta dello Sport, the best-selling sports newspaper in Italy, is an unmissable event for sports fans, who come together in Trento to meet athletes, play sport and enjoy the city.

Four days of meetings, talks, interviews, live events and sports camps in Trento's most important piazzas. Four days when you can bump into the champions you have admired so many times on the big screen, while walking around the city centre.

What is the Festival dello Sport?

It is a full immersion experience in the world of sports. From football to athletics, from basketball to formula one, from volleyball to fencing. A look at sport from a range of perspectives, thanks to a packed calendar of events, hosted in theatres, courtyards and historical palazzos, museums and piazzas.

Some of the most interesting events are the talks: conversations between sports stars and journalists in which the champions tell their stories, revealing anecdotes and behind-the-scenes snippets from their victories in an informal context. If you are lucky, you might also be able to get an autograph or a photo with your idol.

The events are free, with a limited number of seats.

For kids, there are sports camps set up in Trento's main piazzas. Over the years, many different sports have been featured: athletics, basketball, volleyball, climbing. Young people can try their hand at these sports with the help of professionals, who are ready to offer advice.

Then there are exhibitions on the theme of sport: from an exhibition on the famous Panini stickers to one on Aldo Drudi, the designer who has been creating helmets for the most famous motorcyclists, including the legendary Valentino Rossi, for over forty years. From the exhibition on the swimmer Federica Pellegrini to the one dedicated to the great Michael Schumacher, with helmets, suits, trophy and two Formula one cars on display!

A special occasion to enjoy the city of Trento

Have you visited Trento before? The Festival dello Sport is certainly an excellent opportunity to discover this city in the heart of the Alps, halfway between the world of Italy and central Europe.

When visiting the city, what will really strike you is the impressive Duomo in the main piazza, flanked by breathtaking frescoed renaissance palazzos, looking over the mountains. Here, you can stop for a coffee or a glass of Trentodoc wine at the bars in the piazza.

Then, between one event and the next, you can stroll around the centre to go shopping. Those of us from Trento call this stroll around the historical centre "El Giro al Sass". If you have time, make a visit to the Castello del Buonconsiglio, a symbol of the city; to Muse, one of the most important natural science museums in Italy; to the Museo Diocesano in the piazza, or to Villa di Orfeo, to discover the ancient Roman city hidden below present-day Trento.

In short, four days of sport, but also art, history, culture, and - why not? - aperitivo in the open air and delicious dinners, in a city adorned in pink.
