9 things to do in Trentino, for a holiday without skis

Who said that a ski holiday is just about skiing? Of course, going down the slopes is certainly an exciting experience, but there are many other things you can do in the mountains in winter if you don’t ski to enjoy all the nuances of the snow.

A snowshoe excursion, for example, to hear the snow crunch step by step, or a stop after a slow walk to admire the sunset over the snow-capped Dolomites and to slowly enjoy the landscape. Or, slide with wind in your hair astride a toboggan or a bob.

These are just some of our proposals for a ski holiday without skiing, or simply to take a break between one ski trip and another.

#1

Under the moonlight, Campiglio

A stroll under the moonlight, among snow-covered fir trees accompanied by a mountain guide. Your soundtrack is provided by the crunch of the snow and the silence of the forest. Your destination? Malga Ritorto, where a delicious break awaits you around the fire, listening to poems and stories inspired by the moon.

#2

Dog Sledding, Val di Sole

Have you ever read “White Fang”? You do not need to go all of the way to the Klondike to race along on a sled pulled by huskies. This winter, experience a spellbinding atmosphere reminiscent of Jack London’s novel in the snowy woods of Val di Sole.

#3

Aperitif on a snowmobile, Pale di San Martino

A bar counter dug into the snow, immersed in a fir forest, in front of you the spectacle of the Alpenglow, which colours the Pale di San Martino peaks at sunset: the perfect setting for a toast in good company, as the sun slowly descends between the mountains, leaving behind a starry sky.

#4

Fat bike, Alpe Cimbra

30 km of intriguing off-the-beaten-path itineraries, to be covered on a fat-bike, a MTB with large wheels, suitable for snowy trails and low temperatures. 30 km through woods and snowy landscapes, in the natural setting of Alpe Cimbra. 30 km of trails of different levels of difficulty, which can also be explored on electric fat-bikes. What do you say? Are you ready to ride?

Sledding, Paganella Plateau

A proposal for the little ones, but not only... because, after all, sledding on the snow is fun for all ages! In Paganella you will find three sled runs: the Meriz run, reachable from Fai della Paganella, and the Scoiattolo and Bambi runs, reachable from Molveno by cable systems. Which one do you want to start with?

Enrosadira Time, Val di Fassa

The wonders of Alpenglow, to be admired from a privileged point of view: a forest at the foot of the Dolomites. And to make everything perfect... a pure Trentino-style snack, with products from the Dolomite Cheese Route. If you then add an excursion with guides you have all the ingredients for an unforgettable experience!

#7

Snowshoeing with the guide, Val di Non

Have you ever tried walking in the snow on snowshoes? It is an experience not to be missed, especially if you do it in the company of someone who knows every trail and can give you good advice. Don’t miss the Saturday and Sunday events in Val di Non, for a snowshoe walk in the morning or at night.

#8

Sledging, Val di Fiemme

This is a proposal for the little ones... but not only. The thrill of sliding on the soft snow downstream aboard rubber donuts (tubbies), sleds and futuristic bobs of every shape and colour.  In Val di Fiemme you can do it in many places: from snow playgrounds to the Bellamonte slope, 2 km long!

#9

Sunsets and full moons, Rovereto

Walk in the snow with snowshoes, preferably in the company of a guide. If you do it at sunset and your destination is a hut where you can stop for dinner, then the experience becomes unforgettable. We are talking about snowshoeing organised on Monte Baldo, in Lessinia, on Monte Zugna and in the Leno Valleys at night.
