Winter magic on Lake Garda

Garda in winter - On Trentino's fjord with a Mediterranean breeze

If you haven't had the Lake Garda winter experience yet, come and see for yourself. Let us take you on a journey of discovery in an area that is ideal for an outdoorsy, gourmet holiday, all year round.

In Trentino Lake Garda looks rather like an austere fjord winding its way through the mountains, while its vegetation and temperatures emanate Mediterranean warmth and aromas.

The banks of Lake Garda and the mountains surrounding it are ideal for outdoor days out, even in winter, as it's never too cold. There are plenty of trekking routes, and crags and via ferratas to climb, to do all year round, even in the winter. And its valley cycle paths are also very pleasant in this season, whether yours is a road, gravel or e-bike. And there are lots of snow walks to do in Val di Ledro and the Comano area as well, perhaps with snowshoes

Here are a few ideas: just a taste of what Garda has to offer in winter.

#1

A gym that's always open

Garda Trentino is an open-air gym that never closes! The temperatures here are mild and so you can cycle on roads and cycle paths, hike through forests and olive groves and climb legendary cliffs and walls even in the winter months.

#2

From Lake Garda... to snow

You can use your snowshoes and poles just a stone's throw from Lake Garda as well! Up on Monte Stivo, for example, for a walk through the snow with views right across the lake. There are also snowshoe trails in Val di Ledro, in Tremalzo and on Monte Casale.

#3

The olive tree path

In Garda Trentino we've been growing olives for thousands of years and our oil has always been a great resource. Learn more about olives on this route through the Arco olive groves, an extraordinary, almost Leonardesque and movingly beautiful landscape.

#4

A stroll through villages

Sleepy Canale di Tenno is just a stone's throw away from Lake Garda, a maze of alleyways and balconies, while the village of Rango is only thirty minutes by car from Riva del Garda. Both are part of Italy's Most Beautiful Villages network and host two of Trentino's most famous Christmas markets.

#5

Christmas at the lake

Christmas markets light up the lake and its surroundings. Riva del Garda, Torbole, Arco, Canale di Tenno, up to Valle di Ledro and Rango in the Comano area: it's all a party, with stalls, lights and plenty of opportunities to buy products and taste traditional Garda dishes.

#6

A lakeside dinner

And at the end of the day, after a day out, a walk around the villages or through a Christmas market, tickle your palate with Garda Trentino's delicate flavours, from EVO oil to carne salada, lake fish to organic vegetables from Val di Gresta, and then, wines like Nosiola or Trentodoc sparkling wines.
