Vigo: a singing village!
For the traditional summer music festival, the "Valfassa" Choir performs a rich repertoire of popular mountain songs inspired by the grandiose Alpine landscapes, glaciers, forests and legends of the Dolomites
Every Thursday evening in Vigo, we will be able to listen to pieces skilfully performed by local choral groups, who will entertain us in an exciting concert, sure to be appreciated by valley dwellers and tourists alike. At 9.15 p.m., the "Valfassa" Choir will perform in the square in front of the tourist office.
"Where you hear singing, stop! Evil men know no songs!" This is the motto of the "Valfassa" Choir. It was founded in 1970 after some mountain song enthusiasts, following a performance of the S.A.T. (Società Alpinisti Tridentini) choir, decided to try and emulate its bravura. Initially, it was a meeting between friends. The repertoire, consisting of around ten pieces, was mostly made up of pieces heard on the radio or learnt during military service, while the direction was in the hands of the members who were considered more experienced. Artistic direction was soon entrusted to Maestro Pierino Scarpari, already director of other choirs in the area, who transformed the group into the large family it is today. The concerts, initially limited to the valley, soon reached the rest of Italy and abroad, until they achieved the important goal of a collection of pieces performed in Ladin, the mother tongue of the Val di Fassa and other Dolomite valleys. Currently, the choir has around thirty members, coming from the towns of the Val di Fassa and the neighbouring Val di Fiemme, and is directed by maestro Stefano Lazzer from Campitello.
Free admission. In case of bad weather at the events pavilion in front of Hotel Vael.
