Ciampedie - Gardeccia - Refuges Vajolet and Preuss - Refuge Re Alberto I - Gardeccia - Ciampedie
This is the only excursion route to the Re Alberto Refuge and the fairy-tale "Gartl" basin, one of the most evocative and well-known places in the Fassa Dolomites, at the foot of the legendary Vaiolet Towers.
To get to Gardeccia you can take the cable car from Vigo and then path no. 540, or the chairlifts from Pera and then the forest road to Gardeccia (25 mins to total time). From Gardeccia take the dirt road marked path no. 546 and head for the Vaiolét Valley, and the rocks known as the "Porte Neigre". You will come to the path from the Cigolade Pass ("Pas da le Zigolade"; waysign no. 541) and you will soon reach the Preuss and Vajolet refuges. Next take path no. 584 to the Principe Pass but then turn left almost immediately to begin the climb up towards the Vaiolét Towers ("Gartl" equipped path; no. 542). When you arrive you will find the Re Alberto I Refuge. The basin is called the "Gartl" and is formed by the Vaiolét towers, the north face of the Catinaccio and the "Crode di Re Laurino" mountains. Now take the easy path across the scree to the Santner Pass Refuge.
