Music and traditions
Parade of the Vigo Municipal Band along the central Strada Rezia and concert in the square in front of the tourist office
For the summer cycle of "Music and traditions", once a week a local band or by another one coming from the nearest valleys will entertain the public with their repertoire. Enliven by the volunteering spirit that is characteristic of the Trentino South Tyrol, the brass band is an occasion to socialize between people of different ages, where everybody puts his own passion at the service of the community, transmitting the habits, the costumes and the history of the society. The evening, starting at 9 p.m., includes a parade along the main street of Vigo (Strada Rezia) and concert in the square in front of the tourist office.
The "Mùsega da Vich" will do the honours. Music has always played an important role for the inhabitants of Fassa: from daily life to religious celebrations, from dances to village festivals. The first ensemble in Vigo was founded in 1820 by the organist of the "Pieve" San Giovanni (parish church), Giovanni Battista Detomas. In the beginning, the band's activity was strictly to accompany religious services, so much so that the instruments were part of the ecclesiastical heritage. As time went by, performances were increasingly at the service of the community and, in 1841, the band members welcomed the arrival of King Frederick Augustus of Saxony, who had come to the valley to study Dolomite botany. Today, the "Mùsega da Vich", directed with passion and enthusiasm by Maestro Alessandro Ghetta, has 66 musicians and 2 standard-bearers, as well as a large group of sutlers - all volunteers and in typical dress - and a large number of students, who represent the group's future. The repertoire alternates, in a harmonious and balanced manner, traditional pieces with modern ones, more suited to today's taste and band instrumentation.
In case of rain, the parade will be cancelled and only the concert will take place at the events pavilion in front of Hotel Vael.
