Time Rag Department's concert
For one evening the atmosphere of Old Time Jazz, from swing classics to New Orleans evergreens, come to life with the famous Berlin band
They come from Berlin travelling on a time machine to recreate the authentic atmosphere of Old Time Jazz. Inspired by artists such as Duke Ellington, Paul Whiteman, Sidney Becchet and Bunk Johnson, and attracted by New Orleans-style early jazz, the Time Rag Department play ragtime jazz and swing tunes made up of fiery solos, sweet dreamy melodies and enthralling collective improvisations. In addition to numerous national and international performances, for the past ten years the Time Rag Department have been performing in Berlin at least twice a week: at Villa Neukölln for swing dancing and at Speiches Rock- & Blueskneipe, a pub in Prenzlauer Berg. Over time, the musicians in this band have created a broad and layered repertoire that is constantly growing and improving, thus becoming an integral part of Berlin's musical culture.
Line-up: Sofiane Atta, soprano saxophone, clarinet and vocals; Christoph Klan clarinet, alto saxophone and vocals; Anton Wunderlich trombone, piano and vocals; Quentin Bardinet banjo and vocals; Maximilian Keitel guitar; Matthieu Baud double bass.
