Folk fest with the masks' group "Grop de la Mèscres de Dèlba e Penia"
In the occasion of the patrons’ feast Saints Rocco and Sebastian the local group "Grop de la Mèscres de Dèlba e Penia" organizes the festival of traditional masks of Ladin Carnival
They wear "faceres" (wooden masks specifically realised by local artists) and colourful costumes, decored with ribbons and big bells. The members of the folk group "Gròp de la Mèscres de Delba e Penìa" - the association that has been preserving the tradition of the Carnival in Val di Fassa for the longest time - wear their best uniform to celebrate the patron saint of Penìa, San Rocco. The feast for the saint is an occasion to meet in the meadows by the "Sia" - ancient water sewery, part of the Ladin Museum of Fassa. The programme of 3-days festival includes: aperitivo and Ladin lunch, traditional food and good music at evening, concerts, folk parade of the "Grop de la Mèscres" and other groups from the centre of Penìa to the feast location, folk dance exhibition.
Programme on Friday, 16 August:
- 6 p.m. - opening of the "biergarten" with Bavarian dinner and folk music
Programme Saturday, 17 August:
- 11 a.m. - opening of the marquee with aperitif
- 12 noon - typical Ladin lunch and folk music
- 6 p.m. - live music
- 6.30/7 p.m. - typical Ladin dinner with musical accompaniment and dance evening
Programme Sunday, 18 August:
- 11 a.m. - concert by a brass band
- 12.00 noon - typical Ladin lunch and folk music
- 3 p.m. - folk parade from the square in Penìa to the sawmill "La Sia", followed by performances by the individual groups
- 6 p.m. - live music
- 6.30 p.m./7 p.m. - typical Ladin dinner with musical accompaniment and dance evening
- 10.30 p.m. - closing of the marquee
