Water is life. The element we truly can't do without

Places, trails, ideas to discover Trentino's waterways

Rivers and brooks are attentive, mysterious travel companions: they have always fascinated humans, seen as mystical, spiritual places, so much so that they are the home of mythical creatures such as Anguane, fairies and water nymphs.

This is also why, both on the valley floor and atop the peaks of the highlands, hearing the gurgling of a waterway always has strong restorative power - you suddenly find yourself in the right place in the world.

So, you follow the water and get to know, for example, the environment and the vegetation along the rivers: from the willows and the poplars to the rushes on the valley floor.

#1

Ontaneta di Croviana - Val di Sole

In Val di Sole there is one of these riparian forests, formed by densely-packed alders that line the banks of the Noce River. A special place where many species of birds make their nests. If you sit in silence and observe, you will wonder every time at the sounds, the rituals, the beats of wings.

#2

Limarò Canyon - Garda-Comano

There are also places where the rivers and streams carve out the rocks, creating rugged landscapes: gullies, gorges and canyons, to explore with care, on foot or in a silent kayak. We suggest following the route of the Limarò, where the stream forms rocky inlets and high cliffs, carved out by the gushing water

#3

Novella River Park - Val di Non

If you prefer to venture between the rock faces, paddling on the river, do it in the company of a guide, if possible in silence, to fully experience the light reflected on the cliffs and hear the gentle lapping of the water against your canoe. You can have this experience in Val di Non, along the Rio Novella.

#4

Along the Lezi - Val di Non

You can also rediscover the places where the water carries memories of the past as it flows. In Val di Non, for example, there are lovely paths along the canals that were once used to irrigate the fields: you will walk halfway up the valley, through the woods or with panoramic views over the apple orchards. The advantage here is that you can walk along trails that are almost flat, because the irrigation water had to flow gently down to the valley.

#5

Tours on the water - Val Nambrone Campiglio

Finally, in the natural alpine environment, you can take in the stories told by the mountain streams: clear water that melts from the snowfields, fresh and clean, flowing between rocks and forests, and populated by Arctic chars and darting trouts.
